Students’ Code of Conduct • Rules and Regulations

Aligned to the GES Harmonised Code of Conduct for Pre-Tertiary Schools, 2024

In line with the GES Harmonised Code of Conduct for Pre-Tertiary Schools (2024), these are the expected code of conduct for every Student of Action Senior High & Technical School at all material times.

Our aim is to train disciplined, morally upright and academically excellent Students.

Every Student and Parent/Guardian must read, understand and comply with these rules.

“Ignorance of any rule shall not be accepted as an excuse.”

General Conduct

  • a)All Students must be obedient and respectful to authorities, Staff, fellow Students and visitors.
  • b)Students must uphold the good name of the School at all times, in and out of School.
  • c)Incitement to riot, demonstration, bullying, fighting or any form of indiscipline shall attract severe sanctions, including a Police report and Dismissal.

1.0  Academic Regulations

  • 1.1Attendance at all lessons, Prep, examinations and other academic activities is compulsory and punctual.
  • 1.2No Student shall absent himself/herself from class without written permission from the subject Teacher or Housemaster/Housemistress.
  • 1.3All assignments, homework and project works must be done and submitted on time.
  • 1.4Examination malpractice, cheating, leakage of question papers and plagiarism are serious offences.
  • 1.5English Language is the medium of communication at all times on campus.

2.0  General Conduct and Discipline

  • 2.1Respect for authority, Staff, fellow Students and visitors is mandatory.
  • 2.2Fighting, bullying, use of vulgar language, insult or threat is prohibited.
  • 2.3Stealing, dishonesty, forgery and lying are serious offences.
  • 2.4Possession, use or distribution of cigarettes, alcohol, shisha, drugs or any narcotic substance is prohibited.
  • 2.5Possession of weapons, knives, razor blades or any harmful object is prohibited.
  • 2.6Immoral acts, Boy/Girl relationships on campus, kissing, fondling and all forms of sexual misconduct are prohibited.
  • 2.7Possession and use of mobile phones, tablets, smart watches and any unauthorised electronic gadget is prohibited.
  • 2.8Occultism, cult activities and fetish practices are prohibited.

3.0  Dress Code and Personal Appearance

  • 3.1Students must be in full, neat and correct School uniform during School hours.
  • 3.2Boys: low haircut only. No beard, no moustache, no dreadlocks, no dyed or bleached hair.
  • 3.3Girls: natural hair only. No attachments, wigs, weave-on, artificial nails, make-up or heavy earrings. Only small studs are allowed.
  • 3.4No tight, torn, faded or sagging uniforms. No unapproved slippers or sandals.
  • 3.5Boarders must wear decent and approved mufti after School hours.

4.0  Attendance and Punctuality

  • 4.1All Students must be in School before 7:30 a.m. Late coming is an offence.
  • 4.2No Student shall leave the School compound without a valid Exeat signed by the Housemaster/Housemistress and approved by the Headmistress.
  • 4.3Attendance at assembly, dining, worship and all official School gatherings is compulsory.

5.0  School Property and Environment

  • 5.1Students must protect and handle all School property with care.
  • 5.2Writing on walls, desks, notice boards or defacing property is prohibited.
  • 5.3All Students must keep classrooms, Dormitories and the compound clean.
  • 5.4Littering and improper disposal of waste is an offence.
  • 5.5Every Student must participate in communal labour and house duties.

6.0  Boarding House Regulations

  • 6.1No Student shall remain in the Dormitory during class hours.
  • 6.2Cooking, use of electric gadgets and naked lights in the Dormitory is prohibited.
  • 6.3Silence must be observed after lights out at 9:30 p.m.
  • 6.4No Student is allowed to visit the Dormitory of the opposite sex.
  • 6.5Beds must be neatly laid and trunks/lockers locked at all times.

7.0  Islamic Students

  • 7.1Students who do not return after Friday prayers shall be banned.
  • 7.2Ensure decent wearing of Hijab (scarf). Wearing of multi-coloured Hijab is not allowed; only white or green colour is allowed.
  • 7.3No bodily drawings, wearing double ear-rings, rings and amulets is allowed.
  • 7.4Wearing of talisma, tesba, & jalibia during class hours is not allowed except during prayer.
  • 7.5Upon request, students will be allowed to pray on campus / designated place.
  • 7.6Observance of the Ramadan fasting is optional. No student is allowed to avoid classes during the period.
  • 7.7Students are exempted from corporal punishment and energy-demanding tasks during the fasting period.
  • 7.8Students are allowed to pray at dawn and the evening.

8.0  Sanctions and Disciplinary Measures

In line with GES Disciplinary Policy, progressive discipline shall apply.

AMinor Offences

Offences: Late coming, noise making, improper dressing, failure to do homework, littering.

Sanction: Verbal warning, counselling, cleaning/detention, confiscation of item, written warning.

BMajor Offences

Offences: Absenteeism, disobedience, fighting, possession of mobile phone, insulting Staff, leaving campus without Exeat, repeated minor offences.

Sanction: Internal Suspension (1–2 Weeks), hard communal labour, invitation of Parent/Guardian, signing of bond of good behaviour.

CGross Misconduct / Serious Offences

Offences: Stealing/theft, examination malpractice, drug/alcohol use, sexual immorality, assault on Staff, serious bullying, possession of weapon, occultism.

Sanction: Indefinite Suspension, Disciplinary Committee hearing, de-boardinisation, Dismissal from School subject to GES approval, Police action where applicable.

9.0  General Notes

  • i.Any Student who damages or destroys School property shall be surcharged.
  • ii.Three written warnings shall attract Suspension.
  • iii.Dismissal of any Student shall be subject to notification of the Ghana Education Service and the Board of Governors.

Declaration
